NEW BEGINNERS: 
If you are thinking of starting kendo, you are welcome to a free trial on Sundays. We have a 8-10 weeks beginners course that includes a starter kit with equipment including a shinai (bamboo sword), bokken (wooden sword) and a weapons bag. This course runs concurrently with our regularly held Sunday sessions and beginners integrate fully with the main practice after the 8th to 10th week depending on any interruptions with holidays, etc. Upon completion of the course, you can join our other practices held on other days as well. Once you are in kendo bogu (armour), you are also welcome to join our periodic bogu only practices normally held on Fridays in Banbury.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
1. Do I need the kendo clothing and armour as a beginner?
No, you will need just to wear some gym / exercise suitable clothing that’s not restrictive to your movements (tight jeans, etc.). There is no footwear required in kendo either.
2. When do I get the kendo clothing (hakama and kendogi)?
After about 3-4 weeks when you have learned the basic footwork, we recommend buying the kendo clothing (hakama, kendogi). It’s important in the beginning to be able to see and correct your footwork.
3. When do I get to go into kendo bogu (armour)?
Depending on your progress, this typically takes anywhere from 3-6 months on average before beginners get into bogu armour equipment.
4. Is there a free trial?
If you are interested in learning more about kendo and seeing if it is something you would like to take up, please just come join us on Sundays, though please contact us beforehand and let us know.

WEEKLY PRACTICE TIMES (SUBJECT TO CHANGE – PLEASE REFER TO OUR CALENDAR): 
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the times indicated to get ready. Practices will start promptly at the times indicated. If you are late on arrival, please come into the hall quietly, quickly and join us as soon as possible.

Sundays:
Times: 10:15 – 11:30
General practice for juniors & adults from beginners to advanced. Please ensure you are fully ready to go when we start practice.
Locations: Cheney School,  Main Gym Hall, Cheney Lane, Oxford OX3 7QH

Wednesdays:
Times: 19:45 – 21:30
(If there is a youth group present, please do not enter the building until they have left due to the youth group’s child protection policy). Juniors & adults general practice for all levels from beginners to advanced.
Location: St. Matthews Church, Marlborough Rd, Oxford OX1 4LW

Thursdays (Term Times Only):
Times: 20:30 – 22:30
Oxford University adults only general practice for all levels from beginners to advanced. Practices are held only during university term times. We might still hold practice outside of term times, but please inquire first before coming if it is outside of the term times.
Location: Oxford University Iffley Road Sports Complex, Main Hall, Jackdaw Lane, Oxford OX4 1EQ

Fridays (Currently suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions):
Times: 19:30 – 21:30
Advanced bogu (armour) for adults and juniors who have either a rank of 1-kyu and above or been in bogu for a minimum of 1-3 months.
